Welcome to Sandra Sherlock Books
Hi! I’m Sandy Sherlock. I’m a native Michigander who transplanted to North Dakota in 1980 to teach music. I thought I knew what a small town was, but until I moved to Anamoose, North Dakota, I realized that I had no idea! The current population of Anamoose is just over 200.
I came from Michigan to teach music, and in 1981, I met my future husband Al Sherlock, who grew up and farmed in the neighboring town of Drake, population not much bigger than Anamoose. (By the way, my maiden name was Holmes! Really!!) Al and I were married in 1981,. It wasn’t long before we had two kids and had moved onto the family farmstead north of Drake.
In 1994, my legs and my face started going numb. Walking became difficult, as did playing musical instruments. A trip to the neurologist, two MRIs and a lumbar puncture later, and a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis was confirmed.
Twelve years later, my balance had gotten poor enough that I began looking for mobility aids. I began using a cane, but it made my hip and back hurt. I began looking into service dogs trained for mobility assistance. An article in an MS journal in 2005 led me to Jud, North Dakota, to an organization called Great Plains Assistance Dogs - now known as Service Dogs for America. It was there that I met trainer Mitch Doyle, who in turn introduced me to my forever friend, Eddie.
And so, in 2006, our adventures began.
At this time, I have only one book. I hope by saying this out loud and in print, that there will be more. I have ideas!
Welcome to my site. I hope you enjoy the book, as well as the pictures, videos, and stories.
